Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher states that on Saturday at approximately 3:30 a.m, a 1997
Toyota traveling south on Bush River Road in the Irmo area of Lexington County struck a pedestrian who was found to be under the influence, wearing dark clothing. The victim was walking in the middle of the roadway, according to the coroner's report.
Fisher has identified the pedestrian as Laniah R. Garner, 20, of Columbia. Garner was believed to be staying at a local hotel and was walking back to her room when the accident occurred. Garner died on the scene from the injuries she sustained in the accident.
An autopsy was performed on Saturday and revealed that Garner died of upper body trauma.
The driver of the vehicle was uninjured in the accident.
The Lexington County Coroner’s Office as well as the South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the accident.
