Interim CEO Tim James, Sen. Nikki Setzler speak at Chamber breakfast

Tim James - Chamber CEO

There is bold new leadership at the Greater Cayce-West Columbia Chamber of Commerce.

"This is a time of opportunity," said Tim James, the interim CEO of the chamber. He made his remarks at the Chamber's monthly breakfast at the Lexington 2 Innovation Center, Tuesday.

James took over as leader of the chamber after former Chamber CEO Richard Skipper was terminated following his arrest on a forgery charge.

Before James spoke, state Sen. Nikki Setzler, who has been practicing law in West Columbia for 49 years, reassured members that the chamber has endured difficult situations in its 63-year history. He cited the resignation of the whole staff at one point and the weathering of severe economic downturns.

Setzler also said James is a great choice as an interim and that James has the vision to do the job of leading the chamber.

"Let's work together to support Tim," Setzler said.

Thomas Tafel, the chamber's board president, expressed confidence in James and said "after much consideration" the chamber reached out to James after Skipper was dismissed.

James said he wants to be a strong and unifying voice for the Cayce-West Columbia business community. He said the networking opportunities provided by the chamber are important. James also said he will attend public meetings as a representative for businesses that cannot be there and he wants to work to keep expanding the economic impact of the area.

"We've got so much right here," James said.
